What is a Layer cut?

A layered haircut (or “layer cut”) is a hair-cutting technique where the hair is cut at various lengths to create the illusion of volume, texture, and movement. It can be adapted for different hair types, face shapes, and styles—from subtle to dramatic.

Key Features of a Layered Haircut:
    1.    Multiple Lengths: Hair is cut at different levels or “layers,” with shorter strands sitting on top of longer ones.
    2.    Adds Volume: Especially effective for fine or thin hair, as it gives the illusion of fullness.
    3.    Reduces Bulk: For thick or curly hair, layers can help remove heaviness and make hair more manageable.
    4.    Movement and Shape: Layers give natural flow and shape, enhancing the hair’s bounce and dimension.
    5.    Face-Framing Options: Layers can be tailored to frame the face, accentuating cheekbones or softening jawlines.

Types of Layered Cuts:
    •    Long Layers: Subtle, with most of the hair kept at a long length, ideal for a natural, flowy look.
    •    Short Layers: More dramatic and voluminous, often used in bobs or shag cuts.
    •    Feathered Layers: Tapered ends that soften the overall look (popular in the 70s and 90s styles).
    •    Choppy Layers: Uneven and bold, giving an edgy, textured appearance.

Suitability:
    •    Great for: All hair lengths (short, medium, long), and most hair types.
    •    Not ideal for: Extremely curly or Coily hair unless done carefully, as it may lead to uneven shrinkage.
